My gf is taking me on some mystery formal date and has told me to wear a tux. I know it's supposed to be romantic. Just curious if there are any women's opinions on the kinds/colors of tuxes out there, or if I should just get the average black and white so as not to mess up. I kind of what to be ';hip'; if possible.I need to wear a tux for a date and I need advice?
Since your girlfriend isn't giving you much in the way of advice or suggestions regarding the tux, my tip for you is to go basic.
Basic black, and if you want to be stylish and hip then choose a fashionable tux style from a well-known designer.
Myself? I recommend Armani. Always stylish, no bow-tie required if you're not wanting to go that route (the black button-stud is a nice touch) but is still an option for a mix of classic and contemporary.
Don't get a colored cumberbund (other than black), as it will put you in the position of possibly clashing with your girlfriend's outfit. Remember: EVERYTHING goes with black! Make sure your shoes are shined or are rented if you don't have a decent pair (the tux rental store can hook you up on those as well). Some folks will say to match the vest or the cumberbund to her outfit, but as she's leaving it all up to you, just stick with black for the attire.
One piece of advice, and one which will make your girlfriend think you're the most romantic man in the world: ask her what color her dress will be, as you want to make sure your boutonniere (the little flower tucked into the slit in your tux's lapel) matches. It'll show her that you're not only taking this seriously, but you're trying to make this a special event for her as well.
Good luck!I need to wear a tux for a date and I need advice?
well if you wear a tux it shows a lot of class so make sure you make a good impression
Just go with the traditional black %26amp; white.
you should match her.
ask her what color she is wearing.
she'll LOVE it, trust me. girls dig it when guys think of stuff like that.
go with the black tux, but match the vest or shirt to her dress.
the usual black and white
Ask the people at the tux place for advice. Personally, I prefer a vest to a cumberbund and an ascot to a bowtie. Tails are VERY formal so you may want to skip them.
Oh, as far a color, black %26amp; white. If you want something a little different, maybe black pants, jacket, white shirt, grey accessories.
And, for the added touch, buy her a single red rose.
I've had to wear several tuxes for weddings, shows, etc.
Best advice - go with basic black and white. If you want to add some character, get a nice pocket scarf that coordinates with your date's dress. Or, wear a nice vest under the jacket. If you go too wild on the tux, you'll go from Rico Suave' to Ricky Ricardo... probably something your date won't be impressed with.
I would want my man to wear and white tux and a red vest and a long red tie. you would look so sharp.
I own 3 tuxedos.. Wear a black tux, you can dress it up many ways by unique studs, unique vest or cumberbun or tie. Just my 2 cents a waiter/limo driver tux costs about the same as renting one. Buy one of these, you will be suprised how often and where you can wear one.
Black %26amp; White for sure, try looking in vintage clothing store, Vintage is HIP
In my honest opinion, nothing is classier than the original black and white. I also love the ';tails'; BUT get other opinions cause I guess there are all kinds of do's and don'ts on the time of day a person should where tails. Good luck and have fun
Get a modern black and white tux. For ideas look at pictures from the 2006 Academy Awards.
Go for the black and white...
Hun, just go with the plain black and white, if its formal you wouldnt want to show up in a pink tux.
:/ its just weird..
my advice is to find a girl who doesn't drag you to that kind of bs
well u can go for the usual black or there r more option like dark shades of grey of brown. they look good too. nowadays there r tuxes made for young guys were the cuts are more fit. go to a store and ask the salesman to help u out. u can make the tux a little hip by adding a chain on the side of your pant. or maybe a nice silver tie with a black tux.
have fun in the date!
I may not be female but wanted to warn you a little because you don't know where you are going and could end up horribly overdressed. Get as simple of a tux as possible. Avoid the ruffled tux shirts! It can't pass for casual. Navy is best as far as the tux. Avoid the tails and forgo the cumber-bun as well as the bow tie. A silver vest can easily give you all the flash you need in a tasteful way and is very hip. By doing all of this you should be able to have an enjoyable time no matter where you end up. Good luck!
Black and white is definitely the safest way to go. However if you don't want to stick with the classic cumberband and bow tie, you could try a vest and 4 in hand tie. Still formal yet a little updated.
If the even is after 5 pm, you may want to go with tails. Most girls really like a formal man. And yes, I would definitely stick with black and white.
if you don't exactly know what the function is, I would stick to traditional black.....
Black is the only colour tux you should wear unless you are a country and western singer.
Yeah, go for traditional black and white.
If it's truly ';formal'; stick with the classics (not average). Then you won't have to worry about being ';hip';. You can't lose.
If i went on a formal date I think I would rather have my bf wear the traditional black and white tux.
I always wear the traditional black.
If you must, wear a black cummerbund as well.(colours always look a bit ';naff';)
I would tell her you're sick and skip the lame date
If you don't know where you're going and what you're doing, it's probably best to stay classic and go with black and white.
Hip? Dude, don't end up looking like a tool.
Go traditional - classic. A nice black two button with standard lapel (don't go dinner jacket style), a nice white shirt - and then jazz it up if you want with a sweet tie and vest combination.
Don't go purple or some other off-the-wall color. If you do you will just end up looking silly.
The basic black is best but instead of white, wear a shirt or even a tie to match her dress. DON'T forget to give her a single red rose and maybe even wear one in your boutineer hole.
purple and pink on the inner side
go for a zebra stripe pink and black and you will not only be hip- you will be tres coolio
